Welcome to our March 2025 JOC Cooking Challenge!
We are thrilled to launch our first cooking challenge of the year, inviting everyone to discover the simple joys of cooking and make it the highlight of their day.
This month, we will be preparing a deliciously easy and healthy recipe that features just one vegetable along with a few pantry staples. Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!
This Month’s Recipe Challenge: Yamitsuki Cabbage
Yamitsuki Cabbage is a crunchy and savory side dish that has gained popularity in izakayas, particularly thanks to the renowned Japanese BBQ chain Gyukaku. Many home cooks in Japan now create their own versions of this dish, as it offers an affordable and quick way to enjoy vegetables!

This contest is open to participants from around the globe. At the end of the challenge, we will randomly select 3 winners using random.org. Each winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card.
All participants who submit their entries for the JOC Cooking Challenge will be automatically entered into the prize draw.
It’s important to note that winners will not be chosen based on the quality of their creations, but your submission must align with the recipe’s scope.
How to Join the JOC Cooking Challenge
Prepare Yamitsuki Cabbage and adhere to the recipe closely to ensure your final dish resembles mine.
To enter for a chance to win the prize (only one entry per person), please complete the following two steps:
- Email us your picture: Send one photo of your finished dish via email (contest@justonecookbook.com) before 12 pm PST on March 31, 2025, and;
- Leave a (honest) star rating and feedback on the Yamitsuki Cabbage recipe post: Use the same email address as your photo submission. We would love to hear about your enjoyable cooking experiences, kitchen mishaps, or any challenges and feedback you encounter along the way. We appreciate your time and insights!
